COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Philanthropy and Marketing, the Communications Manager plays a central role in shaping how the public understands and connects with The Wildlands Conservancy’s mission, values, and impact. This position works independently and in close partnership with the executive and philanthropy teams, as well as preserve staff, to implement a coordinated communications strategy that strengthens brand visibility, builds public and donor affinity, and supports fundraising goals.

The Communications Manager oversees content across our website, social media channels, and digital communications; manages press and media outreach; and leads the creation of original stories and visual materials that reflect the scale and heart of our mission. This role collaborates with consultants to manage most, but not all, graphic design needs and execute digital marketing campaigns (e.g., PPC and paid social), and is responsible for ensuring quality, consistency, and strategic alignment across deliverables. The Communications Manager will regularly report results and insights to the Deputy Director of Philanthropy and Marketing and, as appropriate, to the Executive Team.

 

PRESERVE STEWARD

PIONEERTOWN MOUNTAINS PRESERVE

Unique opportunity to reside at the Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, a 25,000-acre nature preserve located 10 miles northwest of Yucca Valley, CA. The position entails performing land stewardship, public contact, maintenance, and habitat restoration.

A love of the outdoors, a basic knowledge of ecology, enjoyment of people, and the ability to hike up to three miles are necessary. The steward will be responsible for maintaining positive, professional relationships with local residents, community and conservation groups, and educational and business entities, while promoting the dual mission of TWC. The work is primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, and requires regular and punctual attendance, including weekend work.

 

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

The Bilingual Maintenance Technician supports the operation, safety, and stewardship of Wind Wolves Preserve by maintaining and repairing preserve infrastructure, buildings, trails, roads, and equipment. This position requires hands-on, outdoor work in all weather conditions and includes janitorial, landscaping, and light construction tasks. The role involves regular interaction with the public and participation in restoration and conservation efforts. Regular and punctual attendance, as well as occasional weekend work, are required.

 

BILINGUAL RANGER

Performs land stewardship, public contact, maintenance, and habitat restoration. Maintains and improves structures, trails, and picnic areas; maintains equipment, vehicles, and water systems; and promotes safety awareness among the public and staff.

Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with local residents, community groups, educational and business entities; explains the dual mission of TWC; coordinates, promotes, and facilitates volunteer and education programs for land stewardship. Primarily an outdoor position working in all weather conditions. Requires regular and punctual attendance and weekend work.

 

TEMPORARY RANGER

BLUFF LAKE RESERVE

The Temporary Ranger assists in establishing an on-site presence to the Bluff Lake Reserve from mid-April through November (weather permitting). Successful candidate is comfortable working in an isolated outdoor setting with possible wildlife encounters, passionate about The Wildlands Conservancy’s mission, and has the capability to stay in company-provided camping trailer overnight during scheduled days. The Temporary Ranger primarily interacts with visitors and promotes access and safety awareness and protects the land and its resources. The position will require weekend work and the weekly hours range from 24-32 per week.

 

RANGER

Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with local residents, community groups, educational and business entities; explains the dual mission of TWC; coordinates, promotes and facilitates volunteer programs for land stewardship, and outdoor education opportunities for programs at the San Bernardino Mountains preserves. Primarily an outdoor position working in all weather conditions that require regular and punctual attendance and potentially weekend work as well.
