SPRING NATURE FESTIVAL
March 29 - 30, 2025
Wind Wolves Preserve invites you to its beloved Spring Nature Festival, taking place Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm each day. Join us for family-friendly booths and activities amid the beautiful hills of San Emigdio Canyon!
Wind Wolves Preserve and our Spring Nature Festival are free of charge!
FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES
Programs will be offered at various locations throughout the event. Some activities are ongoing, while others will start at specified times. No reservations are required. All ages welcome!

Restoration Station
Redtail Trail
Ongoing Activity
Get your hands dirty as a land steward volunteer! We will be planting along the trail as well as potting seeds that will grow to enhance the habitat for wildlife. All ages welcome.

Pond Discovery
Discovery Pond at The Crossing
Ongoing Activity
Explore aquatic habitats and learn about the plants and animals that live in and around our pond.

Reptile Presentation
Administrative Center
11 am, 12 pm, 2 pm (each day)
Learn about California reptiles at our live animal presentation. You’ll meet a desert tortoise and snake. Bilingual (English/Spanish) speakers will be available for all presentations!

Guided Hike: Red-Tailed Trail
Administrative Center
1 pm (each day)
Join us for a leisurely, educational stroll along the Red-Tailed Trail. Hike will last approximately 45 minutes and is appropriate for all ages. Meet at the trailhead at 12:45 pm to sign up - space is limited. Bilingual (English/Spanish) guides will be available.

Nature Journaling
Administrative Center
Saturday: 11 am
Learn about nature journaling and how it can foster more detailed observations about the world around us and deepen our connections with nature in this 1-hour workshop hosted by Tejon Ranch Conservancy. Supplies will be provided. All ages welcome. Space is limited; participants will be admitted first-come, first-served.

Face Painting

Choose your favorite natural object for your face or hand. All designs are free!
EXHIBITORS
Join us at the Administrative Center to learn about local wildlife, history, culture, conservation, outdoor recreation opportunities, and more from our many exhibitors! Booths will run from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

PHOTO CONTEST
Enter your favorite Wind Wolves Preserve picture into our Photo Contest. Choose your Division (Professional, Amateur, or Junior) and Category (Flora, Wildlife, Landscape, Furry Friends, or A Day at Wind Wolves). Winners will be featured on our social media and displayed at the event.
VOLUNTEERS
The Spring Nature Festival is Wind Wolves Preserve’s largest event, and we rely on a team of volunteers for it to run smoothly! Volunteers help us run booths and manage visitation. All volunteers will be provided a festival t-shirt and lunch from one of our food vendors!
Volunteers must be 18 or older and able to commit to an entire shift.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Wind Wolves Preserve is a nature preserve and all features, including wildflowers, are protected. Please do not remove anything, living or nonliving, from the Preserve. Do not approach wildlife.
Wind Wolves Preserve is a LEAVE NO TRACE facility, meaning we ask visitors to limit their impact on the land. We expect all festival-goers to stay on trail and pack out (take home) all trash and litter. Visit the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics website for additional information about Leave No Trace principles or ask a staff member.

The Spring Nature Festival is held at The Wildlands Conservancy’s Wind Wolves Preserve, located at 16019 Maricopa Highway in Bakersfield, California. Programs will be offered at various locations on the preserve. See the Festival Activities section for specific details.

Wind Wolves Preserve will be open from 8 am to 7 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Yes, dogs are welcome but must remain on leash at all times.

No, all activities are either ongoing or first-come, first-served.

The Wildlands Conservancy does not charge for activities, entry, or parking, so the Spring Nature Festival is absolutely free! Donations are certainly appreciated!

Yes, there will be a limited number of local food vendors at the preserve during the festival stationed at the Administrative Center. Food will be sold between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
We also recommend packing snacks and water.

Festival booths will be located on relatively flat, grassy terrain just outside the Administrative Center. Visitors are advised to watch their footing at creek crossings and in grassy areas, where squirrels are known to burrow.

The busiest day for the festival is Saturday, particularly between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm.

Spanish translations will be available at select booths, as well as at all Reptile Presentations and the Guided Hike.
